Away Electives: Evaluations

Students are responsible for collecting evaluations from away electives in order to receive credit. We strongly prefer that evaluations are submitted electronically through OASIS. PDFs of evaluation forms should not be shared as a means of collecting an evaluation unless absolutely necessary.

Away electives that you are registered for in OASIS will prompt you to "set up your away elective evaluator" via a faculty evaluation form at the midpoint of the elective month. You will be reminded to add your evaluator using their name and email. You must set up your away elective evaluator in OASIS even if a PDF evaluation will be sent to Curricular Affairs.

How to add your away elective evaluator in OASIS:
  1. From your OASIS home screen, click on "View a report of the evaluations you need to complete" under Evaluations to Complete.
  2. Click on "Show Submitted and Closed in [Year]" if necessary.
  3. Click on "Add a person to evaluate" to the right of the evaluation name and information.
  4. If your evaluator isn't in the Evaluator List dropdown (if applicable), click on the "Evaluator Search" tab.
  5. Search OASIS to check if your evaluator is already in the system. (Select their name and click Add if yes.)
  6. If not, add them under "Add person by name" using their name and institutional email.
  7. Complete the process by clicking on the "Set up your Away Elective Evaluator" evaluation name, and confirming and submitting the form (make sure the evaluator is correct).

Three days prior to the end of your elective month, your evaluator will receive a notification via email that will contain a link and instructions on how to submit your evaluation. Reminders to complete outstanding evaluations start a few days before the end of the rotation, and then every Sunday evening until completed.

Outside evaluations:

While we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE the submission of your student performance evaluations to be completed electronically, some away institutions will not use our OASIS evaluation and will instead complete their own form. Once received, the evaluation will be uploaded by Curricular Affairs to your OASIS Academic History and the grade from the evaluation will be submitted via the OASIS evaluation (you must set this up; see above).
  • You can submit a copy of the completed evaluation to Curricular Affairs via a UserVoice ticket.
  • A copy of the completed evaluation can sent by the away institution to: pselectives@cumc.columbia.edu
