Away Electives: I want to set up a Self-Arranged Global Health elective.

If you have self-arranged an elective with a global site that is 4 weeks in length, please follow these steps. 'Self-arranged' means that the rotation is not offered in the school's catalog (ex: you did not apply through VSLO to set up the rotation), or the course takes place at a global site with which VP&S is not affiliated.

  1. Open a Uservoice ticket and attach the confirmation from the faculty and/or global site who will be supervising you during the rotation.
  2. Compose a two-page proposal detailing the Title, Name of Faculty, Hypothesis/Purpose, Objectives, Methods/Learning Format, Goals, and Role of the Student.
  3. Combine the proposal, the Petition to Add form, and the faculty permission into one document with the Petition form as the cover page and submit as a ticket via 'OPEN TICKET: Contact P&S Education.' For international rotations, please further describe the site and faculty.
  4. There is no deadline for creating a self-arranged elective at a global site - but if you are self-arranging a global elective, that means you are not attending one of the programs/exchanges listed on our website. You will need to be sure there is enough time for Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Alves-Bradford, to approve your self-arranged global health elective before you start making any travel arrangements. Please note, students will not receive credit for self-arranged global health electives if they are not approved at least two months prior to departure. Any self-arranged electives at global sites will count as "time away." Any students interested in self-arranged global elective travel must allocate a two-month window to account for course and country approval process.
