Away Electives - Frequently Asked Questions:
- FAQ: The site I want is not in VSLO. How do I apply? Please visit their university websites for more information.
- FAQ: The site requires a Letter of Good Standing. Where do I get one? Please submit a UserVoice ticket to the Student Affairs office. (See here for UserVoice article.)
- FAQ: The site has a form that needs to be filled out by a school official. Who would that be? Please submit a UserVoice ticket to the Student Affairs office.
- FAQ: What is the minimum length of an away rotation for credit? 4 weeks. The only exception is the University of California system, which offers 3-week rotations.
- FAQ: How do I receive credit for away rotations? You must be registered for all away rotations in OASIS by adding yourself to the waitlist. After you receive a placement at a location you will upload your acceptance letter to the waitlist roster information for approval. (See here for UserVoice article.)
- FAQ: The site I want has a different schedule than Columbia. How do I schedule my electives there AND here? Columbia electives run on the calendar month. Some begin the first calendar day, others begin the first Monday. Start by requesting flexibility in the start/end dates from the away site to match your Columbia schedule. Also see this UserVoice article.
- FAQ: I’m worried I won’t get my away site / I haven’t heard from my away site. Can I schedule a Columbia elective just in case? Scheduling Columbia electives when you plan to go away is discouraged, as doing so prevents other students from securing the electives they also need. In the instance that an away site falls through, you can submit a UserVoice ticket for further support from our team.
