VS Onboarding: Health Clearance

Virtual students do not need to submit health requirements to receive health clearance.

Submit health requirements to Student Health Services

  • Complete this step as soon as possible. You must be cleared by SHS and registered before you can begin your elective. Also see: Onboarding Due Dates
  • Follow the pre-registration process for clinical students on the Student Health Services website to submit your health requirements.

  • SHS will not give you health clearance unless all requirements are met.

A few important requirements to note:
    • Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months of program start date.
    • Tuberculosis Screening:
      • IGRA blood test (QuantiFERON Gold) within 6 months of program start date. If positive, submit a chest x-ray report.
      • Only IGRA will be accepted; TB skin tests will not be accepted.
  • Contact SHS directly with any questions about the health requirements: shsregistration@cumc.columbia.edu, 212-305-3400

Receive health clearance from Student Health Services

  • Check the Student Health Services portal regularly for messages until you receive clearance.

When to expect access:

  • You will have access to the SHS portal immediately once you have activated your UNI.
  • Note: SHS will need to review your documentation, clear you in their system, and notify our office of your clearance before we can proceed with your onboarding.
