Lottery Strategy: Waitlist Course Registration

Refresher:

During a lottery, you can register for a waitlist course in two ways:
  1. Back-up Plan Method: You participate in the lottery and are placed in a particular course. This is your back-up course! You start the waitlist registration process once the lottery stage closes and results are released. (Please see "I want to add a "Waitlist Only" course in OASIS" for a detailed guide). If you are approved for the waitlist course, you drop the course you were placed in during the lottery so the waitlist course can be confirmed. If you are not approved for the waitlist course, you still have the back up course from the lottery on your schedule.
  2. Wait and See Method: You do not participate in the lottery when it is running. You wait until the stage closes and results are released to start the waitlist registration process. You place yourself on the waitlist and wait to see if you are approved to enroll. If you are not approved to enroll, you check OASIS to see which courses still have availability and add them to your schedule.

Things to Keep In Mind:
  • Do not add yourself to the waitlist for any course you know you will not take.
  • You can place yourselves on multiple waitlists at the same time, but you must stay on top of your schedule! Please remove yourself from any waitlist courses you are no longer interested in.
  • You must move quickly and drop your back up course if you are confirmed for a waitlist course. You can not push this off!
  • Please be aware that course instructors/coordinators are responsible for granting permission for waitlist courses. Each course has their own criteria for granting permission. Head to the course's description and review the listed Waitlist Instructions. You must be on the waitlist before reaching out to course coordinators, but all waitlist courses are not first come, first served.
